Living in the San Francisco Bay Area, it never ceases to amaze me that it is such a densely populated area, but there are some pockets of just wonderful quiet.
It’s a bit of an exaggeration, that second panel, but I have caught myself thinking “I’m the only one here!” and then someone comes around the corner. Sometimes I’ll be walking and can hear a conversation somewhere in the woods, about finances or someone’s plans for the weekend, but the speakers are invisible.
It still doesn’t detract from the fact there is beauty and solitude out there. You just have to put on your shoes and walk a bit.
